70%

of India's population
lives in the rural areas

They are the backbone of this great nation. However when it comes to having a medical help, they are not as fortunate as their urban counterparts.

The "Golden Hours" of trauma or an heart attack are not applicable to these people since they live far away from even the basic life support. General Practitioners who are sons of the soil are the ones who have been the saviours for them and will continue to be. GPs provide the basic medical care to these down trodden people. They consider them as one of their family and in these days of mounting pressure on medical profession, still the doctor patient relationship is largely unscathed in the village.
These GPs though toiling day after day in the dusty little towns lose large educational opportunities which their elite urban friends have. To do away with this great divide, Rural Clinical Society was started in the year 2003 by few doctors who were friends for more than three decades. More kind hearts joined them and by the end of the year it had grown into a crowd of more than 20.

The Growth

Through the years, with the untiring efforts of the doctors from four small dusty towns Omalur, Jalakandapuram, Tharamangalam and Elampillai, the association began to grow.
Monthly meetings were conducted first in houses of the doctors with makeshift projectors and sometimes even without them. Food was cooked in one of the doctors house and a simple dinner followed every monthly meet. The practitioners themselves took turns to present interesting cases and journals every month amongst themselves. The zeal to acquire more knowledge pushed this into a regular academic exercise.
After a few years, doctors from other specialities were called to share their knowledge with this crowd. And the monthly meeting on Wednesdays became a regular affair.
The meetings crossed 50, 100 and 150 soon with the membership base too swelling.

Thulasi Diabetic Foundation

Thulasi diabetic foundation is run by Dr. Nagarajan., MD and Dr. Thulasi., MD., MRCP(London), Consultant Diabetologists Thulasi Hospital Omalur. It is an organisation truly meant for the welfare of the people with Diabetes. It kick-started its journey 30 years ago by conducting various free diabetic camps in remote villages and within reputed institutions in the belt of Dharmapuri Krishnagiri and Salem District. TDF had also announced various schemes like TDF annual fee scheme, Diabetes Master Health Check-up for the benefit of its members at an affordable price. IN order to create awareness among the diabetics and general public about the benefits of healthy life style by incorporating healthy habits like eating balanced diet, regular exercise, tobacco avoidance. It has conducted various food exhibitions and marathon activities in the cities. Now as another feather in the crown it has collaborated with Rural Clinical Society in its venture for the RURAL GPCON 2017 and this year too.
